![]() The absolute best source for Q-zar information, strategy, and all-around good taggin' fun.
Spotting Real CheatersYou know there is one thing that makes me angry when I play Q-zar. NO its not covering. I cover (well against good players at least...we don't cover against fishies). No that thing is the little defect in some equipment we call "fusing"...I believe it may actually be called plugging...or something hell if I know. I'm not going to explain how to do it...but if you know how to do it...and do it to intentionally alter your scores, I pray to the great gods of Q-zar that you be caught and kicked repeatedly by the marshals...and then by every little old lady within five miles. Here's the thing: I'm not going to explain how to do it,but I will explain what it does. It's not actually a defect in technical terms. Basically, by a special thing you do to your gun, you reset it. May not seem like much, but it is. The big deal is Q-zar vests of the type that can be "fused", only record who it has been shot by, not who it has shot. All of your shots are recorded in your respective opponenets vests (and if your a bit trigger happy your teammates vests as well). What this means is that by reseting your vest you HAVE NEVER BEEN SHOT, but your shots still count! Fine and dandy if its an accident (yeah less than 2% of the time...great odds), but some players consider this a viable strategy. So how do you protect yourself and your team from this? Well, in general, most fusers I know have specific habits. They don't cover, yet score well. Some even find extremely open areas, like the center of the arena from which to sit and tag unsuspecting passers. These are your first warning signs. If you find out you have "killed" someone you suspect, follow them to the energizer. It is only after they have been killed that they will usually do this so either you will catch them, or they will energize without doing it. (you may even see how its done...but of course you don't want to risk those old ladies kicking you now do you? Good) Another good tip is to count your hits on the suspect and take note of their number. If when you get your score card something seems drastically wrong, inform a marshal that you suspect the person, and they will either watch that player more closely or confront him/her. Which brings about my next point, talk to the marshal somewhat privately... people are never too happy about being confronted with possible banning . I would be angry if I was banned from a Trekie convention...even though I have no logical reason to ever attend one so you can about imagine that someone would be angry if they were faced with possible banning from something they enjoy. If you know how to fuse, then don't. Think about it, you aren't actually winnning, and it is totally against the way the game is supposed to be played. Just think if everyone fused, and games would end with 0 to 0 scores. How screwed up would that be? Also Q-Zar owners, look into covering the "fusing spot", with tape or some other device, anything that's removable for when you actually have to use it for legitimate purposes, but will stop or at least slow fusers.
